What tales did our ancestors tell as they looked up at the Southern skies? Old-world lore is still alive in the home-spun tales of the rural south. Bow songs of these southern cultures will form the basis for a modern retelling of these stories in a contemporary sound-setting. For this concert the UCT Ibuyambo Orchestra will be re-imagining its instrumental palette in arrangements that will combine its pan-African instrumental and vocal forces in new ways.

Raga Ecstasy is a classical Indian music concert featuring the sitar maestro, Niladri Kumar live in concert with tabla genius, Vijay Ghate. Experience the soul-stirring sitar as it manifests in the hands of a maestro accompanied by the passionate pulse of the tabla creating a musical splendour. This one is not to be missed.
Blessed with a lineage of five generations of sitar players, Niladri Kumar is a world renowned and global icon to reckon with. Niladri started learning sitar from the age of four under the guidance of his father and guru Pandit Kartick Kumar, himself a disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar. He is hailed as one of the serious exponents of Indian Classical Music and has an uncanny prodigious style in making this music appealing to the youth and the masses at large.
Vijay Ghate started learning tabla at the age of 3. From the age of 16 he became well-known for his scintillating solo performances. At age 16 he moved to Mumbai, and for over twelve years he learnt tabla from Pandit Suresh Talwalkar. He has been accompanying many music maestros of India and abroad. His adept and enthusiastic accompaniment has made him a firm favourite of many of India`s renowned classical musicians. He is one of the few tabla players who are proficient in accompanying for instrumental, vocal, and dance music.

Description
Two of South Africa's leading theatre stalwarts, playwright and actor Paul Slabolepszy and director Bobby Heaney, once again team up to create a distinctly South African experience in Slabolepszy’s brand new hit play Suddenly the Storm. Their combined experience and proven track-record bring together the perfect storm of talent with powerful acting, inspired writing and incisive directing. On the outer reaches of the Far East Rand, at the home of an ageing ex-cop Dwayne (played by Slabolepszy) and his much younger wife Shanell (Charmaine Weir-Smith), a storm is brooding. What starts out as a smouldering dark comedy, suddenly turns into a roller-coaster ride of startling revelations ... of rage and recrimination ... of intrigue and suspense ... before the storm finally breaks. Enter Namhla Gumede (played by Renate Stuurman), born on June 16 1976 and seeking answers to questions that have remained buried for 40 long years... A whirlwind of mixed emotions - greed, love, loss and healing, Suddenly the Storm touches on topics that make this country so rich and rewarding for those who can brave its storms. Description
Teacher turned Comedian, Dalin Oliver, is back with a few more lessons in his brand new stand-up comedy show, Face For Radio, following the sold out success of his debut one man show, I Came, I Taught, I Left.10 years after matriculating, Dalin is struggling to adapt to the concept of adulting. No one warned him about it.
His Life Orientation teacher forgot tell him that he'd have to pay tax, parallel park in on-common traffic and that data would be this expensive.Friendships and relationships have changed. His friends are getting married and going to Stodels on the weekend while he's figuring out that Tinder is not that beneficial when you staying at home with your parents.
One day while playing PokemonGo, he realised that it was time to grow up.(Actually his mom told him that if he doesn't get off his phone and clean his room he'll never find a girlfriend.) It was time to get his act together.
So pop around to hear his stories. If you don't, he'll only have family members attending and they would want complimentary tickets. We don't want that now do we.

Description
Soli Philander's 'Nice Coat' is about - as he puts it - HIS Cape Town.Born out of a desire for a narrative about Cape Town - the place of his birth, his youth, his heart - that didn't serve a political agenda, wasn't an exercise in attracting tourists, and did not disregard the daily, stark realities so many Capetonians in surviving have to embrace.
Fueled by the desire not to defend or deflect accusations leveled at The Mother City - her detractors on the inside and out - or wallow in the praise and pride from those enamoured by her, but rather to provide another view, another 'take', another conversation about the place he calls home, and his experience of it.
Philander is adamant about the unique 'sound' of Cape Town - 'there is a rhythm to it, a beat' - that he maintains is the essence of 'being Capetonian'. In his observations about, his criticism of, his tribute to the place he calls home, he seamlessly plays with word and intonation, idiom and phrase, rhyme and reason, to engage mind, memory and emotion in a delicately-humoured, hour-long rhyme.
When asked 'why?' about the rhyme, Soli responded: 'I didn't realize for a long time that the instinctive love I have for rhyming is cultural - from the games we made up as children, the secret languages we invented as teens, the delightful playing with words of the hawkers, and even organized crime's penchant for inventing new words or new meanings for existing ones'
Philander journeys through Cape Town, HIS Cape Town, with a backpack full of memories, realizations, observations, experiences and the ever-present readiness for laughter in the face of the bleak. A trip around The Mother City - if you've ever been, are, or will ever be - you should not miss!

Award winning actor-comic-musician Sné Dladla possesses an irresistable charm and raw talent. (Also, when we say "award winning", we mean it. Two Fleur du Caps - best supporting actor and best actor in a musical - a National Arts Festival Ovation Award, plus a certificate for placing joint third in the grade two three legged race).
Dladla's versatility is astounding. He's created and performed theatre shows with Andrew Buckland, been cast and directed by Athol Fugard in The Painted Rocks at Revolver Creek, and starred in David Kramer's Orpheus in Africa and District Six Kanalla musicals.
Since bursting onto the stand up circuit, he's hosted Comedy Central's Comedy Central News and won a Silver Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival for his first one man show, The Joke's On You.
His second solo show iChameleon opens at the Baxter Studio on June 27th. iChameleon utilises music, drama, comedy, physical theatre, the human voice, big eyes, and an impressive nose to investigate how we humans pretend. To ourselves, each other, and the world.iChameleon is ultimately a story of self discovery. It's thought provoking. It's moving. It's funny. It's at the Baxter from June 26th till July 8th. Book Now!

The Lilliput Children's Theatre Company’s most popular show, Pinocchio, is based on the original Carlo Collodi classic of the little wooden puppet who has to prove himself to be honest and trustworthy before he can become a real live boy, with help and guidance from Jiminy Cricket and the Blue Fairy.
Follow Pinocchio and Gepetto on their adventures to Stromboli’s Puppet Theatre and inside a whale.  Watch Pinocchio’s nose grow as he lies to Gepetto and see Jiminy Cricket magically turn into a life-size cricket.
Pinocchio is one of the world's best-loved fairy tales and is adapted and directed by Elton John Duffy, who has been producing children`s theatre and delighting audiences for the past 24 years.
This is a traditional fairy tale with a modern twist for the whole family to enjoy. This production stars Desle McConney, Ameera Juta, Dean Van Der Ventel and Elton John Duffy.
